Limited Edition of 60 Pieces
Overview
The URWERK UR-103T Tarantula in 18k 5N red gold represents one of the most expressive executions of the UR-103 platform. Originally produced in a limited series of 60 pieces, this configuration combines the open architecture of the Tarantula with the warmth and presence of red gold.
Defined by its fully exposed satellite display, the UR-103T reveals the mechanics of time in motion. The domed sapphire crystal opens the case entirely, allowing the orbiting system to be observed without obstruction.
More than a variation, the Tarantula marks a moment where URWERK shifted from concealment to exposure, transforming the display into a kinetic structure.
Case and Design
The case is crafted in 18k 5N red gold, offering a rich tonal contrast against the darker elements of the satellite mechanism.
Its asymmetrical form and layered construction create a sense of movement even when static. The curvature of the case, combined with the height of the sapphire crystal, gives the watch a sculptural presence on the wrist.
The red gold finish enhances the depth of the design, reflecting light across the different surfaces and reinforcing the architectural complexity of the case.
The Tarantula Structure
The UR-103T takes its name from the Tarantula structure, a spider like framework that supports the satellite carousel.
This structure holds the four orbiting hour satellites while partially concealing the inactive hour numerals. The design creates a dynamic interplay between exposure and concealment, where only the active hour is fully revealed as it travels across the minute arc.
The large domed sapphire crystal allows the entire system to be viewed, transforming the display into a mechanical composition in constant motion.
Satellite Time Display
Time is indicated through URWERK’s original revolving satellite complication.
Four hour satellites rotate across a 120 degree minute arc. As each satellite moves along the track, it displays the current hour and minutes simultaneously.
Once the minute arc is completed, the satellite rotates away and continues its orbit before returning to the display.
This continuous motion defines the identity of the UR-103 and remains one of the most recognisable time displays in contemporary watchmaking.
Movement
The UR-103T is powered by the manual wind calibre 3.04, delivering a 36 hour power reserve.
The movement is designed to drive the satellite system while maintaining stability and precision across the rotating carousel.
The URWERK Control Board
Turning the watch over reveals the URWERK Control Board, a signature element of the UR-103 series.
The case-back includes:
• power reserve indicator
• 15 minute counter and seconds display for precise time setting
• fine tuning screw for rate adjustment
This system allows the wearer to interact directly with the movement, adjusting its performance when required.
Rarity and Condition
Originally limited to 60 pieces, the UR-103T Tarantula in red gold remains one of the most distinctive versions of the 103 family.
This example is presented in as new condition, fully refurbished and tested by URWERK watchmakers.
Supplied with a two year pre owned warranty, URWERK box, and a new Baltimora textile and leather strap.
Felix Baumgartner
“We like unusual creatures. The 202 Hammerhead, the T Rex, and the 103 Tarantula. The carousel really reflects that idea.
When we presented the watch in Geneva, a real spider was displayed alongside it, cared for each evening during the event.”
Martin Frei
“With the UR-103T we opened the case completely. I redesigned the satellite mechanism and introduced the Tarantula structure.
It holds the satellites while partially covering the unused hour numerals, creating a more dynamic display.”
