Game of Thrones season 6: premiere date (2016)

posted in TV series | 19 Comments

When will season 6 of Game of Thrones premiere in 2016? The TV viewers would like to know the start air date of the new episodes on HBO!

Last year the creators of “Game of Thrones” television series officially announced about its renewal not only for the 5th, but also for the 6th Season. The premiere of the new episodes is scheduled for April 2015 and April 2016 accordingly.

In his interview Michael Lombardo (the president of programming for HBO) suggested the TV-project to be phenomenal, different from the other TV shows.

David Benioff and Dan Weiss in their turn noted that the writer George Martin had already informed them about the plot of unfinished books as well as the anticipated final, that was why they weren’t going to postpone the last show seasons for several years to give George Marting time to finish the books. The producers consider it possible, though undesirable, that the television series “Game of Thrones” is finished before the last book is published, so they have “back-up plan” for that case.

In their interviews they mentioned repeatedly that the best way was to make the seventh season the last one, but Michael Lombardo said, that “seven seasons sounds good to the network, though eight would sound even better”.

The exact start date of the premiere of Season 6 is still being awaited. Follow the updates!

UPDATE 1 (January 7, 2016): Do you want to know the exact return date for GoT? The sixth season of HBO’s Game of Thrones will arrive on April 24, 2016 (at 9/8c).

UPDATE 2 (April 21, 2016): Game Of Thrones has been renewed for a SEVENTH SEASON ahead of its Season 6 premiere. HBO would not confirm the number of episodes order for Season 7 at this time.

What is going on now with the seasons of these shows.10 months between seasons are a little rediculious. You endup having go back and watch them again to remember what was going on….
bAd way to run a series, half the time they get cancelled and you never see now they end…….

  4. Mary Munoz

I’d be disappointed if they didn’t stick with it until all the books are done!

Love Game of Thrones! Make season 7 and 8 and 9… This show deserves it!

  6. -Alf-

Love the show! Just picked up HBOgo so that I could watch entire season 5 w/o interruption. I wished there were more episodes per season though. 10? That’s just a tease. Most shows will have almost twice as many. I agree too that there’s too much time in between seasons. A couple months hiatus can be expected. They should film the next season while this one is being aired. Take a 2 month vacation (like who gets that, seriously) then be back at it.

Since this is more fantasy than history like the Vikings, seems they could go on for a long time with several more seasons. Where the Vikings series would run into dated time period. I find both fun to watch, and esp like that they don’t pull a lot of censored cr*p, but tell their story as it is or would be.

Just watched the first episode of S6, glad another great made for TV show is back. I’d like to see more 2hr episodes, if they have to be spread further apart for time of filming so be it. These short ones leave you hanging too much. great stuff though. Just like the vikings and walking dead 🙂

spent the long weekend watching all the first 4 previous seasons, I may have seen some but been a long time and I don’t remember if I did, by time I got to S4 ep8 I think I started to remember :), so now I’m fully caught up 🙂 If I had this playin on a big screen TV in a small dark room I think I would have started to think I was there myself lolol. Would be neat to find a full up to date DVD.

The more I watch these shows, the more I’m impressed with the caliber and professional acting of these people, not to mention the writers that come up with each next series.

Keep em comin, its fantasy after all and could pretty much go on for several more years 🙂

damn, another season ends, and the long “winter is coming” to have to wait out again till Spring 🙁 for season 7.

good thing the other 2 shows I like are about to gear up 🙂
