Downton Abbey season 7?

Will Downton Abbey be renewed or cancelled? What about the premiere air date in 2016? Let’s hope for the new episodes start!

Is it possible that «Downton Abbey» television series won’t be renewed for Season 7?

At the beginning of January Maggie Smith in one of the interviews suggested that the show was unlikely to be renewed and this fact only proved the critics’ beliefs. Also the contracts of the main actors come to an end this year and it is senseless to continue the TV-project without the full Crawley family.

According to many Internet resources, Season 6 of «Downton Abbey» show is to become the final one, that’s why there is no need to wait for the premiere date of Season 7. The only encouraging fact is that NBC Universal management haven’t commented on this respect yet, that’s why let’s hope for the best.

UPDATE 1: ITV announced that Season 6 would be the last.

UPDATE 2 (August 1, 2015): “I think a Downton movie would be a wonderful thing, but we don’t have a script or a plan as of yet”, executive producer Gareth Neame conceded at the TCA summer press tour in Beverly Hills.
